Le Thi Luu (Vietnam, 1911-1988) in Hanoi, circa 1928.

A graduate from the École des Beaux-Arts de l'Indochine (the Fine Arts School of Indochina) which was established by Victor Tardieu (France, 1870-1937) in Hanoi in 1925, is considered as one of the best female Vietnamese artists. Her painings are noted for the soft hues and a romantic sentiment which touched the hearts of many. The artist visited France with her husband in 1940 when Europe was on the verge of war. When the war broke out, she could not make the trip back to Vietnam as the Suez Canal was blocked and she settled in France till her death in 1988.
