Monsieur Jean-François Hubert, a fine gentleman, I had the pleasure of meeting him for a few days in Paris a few years back and had a wonderful time discussing Southeast Asian arts. I admire his passion and love for Vietnamese arts and culture, and we have continued to communicate over the years. Frankly, one of the most satisfying aspects of collecting art is meeting people of like minds who share the same interest. It has been a great way to build a friendship. The way he uses a beautiful poem by one of the old poets about a woman longing for her husband, and he puts them together. Even I don’t like the painting, I have to buy the painting. And, I did buy the painting because of him.
